I will show you How To Speed Up Your Computer in this tutorial! I have 5 quick options how to do it. These are the most common and most effective ways to speed up your Computer. If you want to optimize Windows 10 or Windows 11 then please take a few minutes to try out my 5 tips to speed up your PC. You won’t regret it. These steps will boost your PC’s performance and will fix some system issues.

All of these tips are perfectly working for Windows 10 and Windows 11. You can try them on Windows 7 but I don’t know if that will work there. This will boost your overall performance, so except boost of FPS in your games as well!
- Disable Startup programs
- Update your Graphics Driver
- Disk Cleanup and defragmentation
- Delete everything from Temp and Prefetch Folder
- Turn on Game Mode
1. Disable Startup Programs
This is the first and most effective way to speed up your computer. I bet you have several programs that boot up automatically once you turn on Computer. This may cause in low performance, you should consider turning all of the programs off. The funny thing is that you probably don’t even use those programs that takes so much of the CPU usage.
I’ll show you the easiest and fastest way to disable startup programs. Make sure you restart your PC once you turn off the startup programs in order to take the effect. And by restart I really mean restart, keep in mind: Turning off the PC and then turning it on is not restart!
- Go to Windows Search Bar and search for Task Manager, open it.
- Find Startup tab. You can disable any program you want.
- Choose the program that you want and disable it.
This is pretty quick right? It’s amazing how this 1 minute thing will boost your computer’s performance. If this didn’t help you at all, don’t hesitate. We have still 4 steps ahead from us!
2. Update your Graphics Driver
Updating your graphics driver will also boost your performance. Especially if you haven’t done this yet on your PC. Always keep in mind to have your computer updated. It doesn’t matter whether it is a windows update or graphics card update. Updating your Computer prevents getting it hacked by somebody.
Every update is great for your computer. It brings many updates and fix issues. Let’s get into How To Update Your Graphics Driver. This is pretty simple, but it depends on which graphics card you have. Whether it is a NVIDIA or AMD. I have AMD so I will show you How To Update AMD Graphics Card. But it’s similar or nvidia too, so don’t worry!
- Press ALT+R, this will open Radeon Software.
- In the right top corner you’ll see Driver & Software
- Click on Check for updates
If there is an Update then click Install. This may take up a while, especially if you haven’t done this yet! The screen can flash during this installation process, don’t worry if that’s happening. It is completely normal. But trust me, keeping your Graphics Driver updated will Speed Up Your Computer so much!
IMPORTANT NOTE: In order to take an effect, you have to restart your PC! So please do after the installation is finished.
3. Disk Cleanup and Defragmentation
I believe that these two steps are the most important steps How To Speed Your Computer. Cleaning up your hard drive will delete so many unnecessary files from your PC. I will show you the fastest way to do this. It’s a great thing because this will clean up a lots of unused files in your computer.
Let’s talk a little bit more about Defragmentation. It is necessary to defragment your computer time to time because it will speed up your computer so much by deleting files that you do not need! Those files are created by Windows while they are being written. The worst thing on this is that if you install some software and then you uninstall it, small packets still stays on your hard drive. That’s why you need to defragment it.
- Let’s begin with the Hard Drive Clean Up
- Go to This PC
- Right click on Local Disk and go to Properties
- Click on Disk Cleanup and choose everything, then click on Done
- Go back to This PC
- Right Click on Local Disk -> Properties -> Tools Tab -> Optimize
- Once you are there, click on Optimize again
This may take up a while. You can do this overnight because for someone it takes literally hours to defragment. Especially if you’ve never done this before. I recommend you to this very often.
BONUS TIP: You can schedule Defragmentation, just go to Optimize again and see Schedules, set it up if you want daily, weekly or monthly.
4. Delete everything from the Temp and Prefetch folder
This is useful for everyone. And if you are one of those who installs every software then you will appreciate this. The size of the folder depends on how many files you have in there and as I said above, if you’ve never done this then the size will be huge! It actually depends on how many appplications you have installed on your PC.
This folder is used to store information about these applications and cached data. Prefetch folder is kinda the same. There is also another folder called %temp%, I’ll show you how to clean up all of these 3 folders.
- Press Windows Key + R on your keyboard
- The Run applications should appear
3. Search for Temp and hit OK
4. The Temp Folder should appear, select all of the files and delete them.
5. Do the same with the Prefetch and %temp% folder. Simply search for Prefetch and then %temp%
5. Turn on Game Mode
There is a new feature from Windows, they added it since Windows 10 and it is also available in the newest Windows 11. The Game Mode is a great feature, it helps your PC to focus on Gaming. This boosts lots of people’s FPS in the games. I’ll show you How To Turn On Game Mode in Windows!
- Go To Windows Search Bar and search for Settings
- Once you are in the settings, go to Gaming
- You should see Game Mode there
- Turn it ON
